From the history of the mining colony
The mining colony was built as a residential district for miners who came to Handlova for work. The management of the mining plant decided that it would build its own housing for its employees near the mine, outside the village itself.
The construction of the mining colony began in 1909 and the main construction took place until 1928. At that time, 149 workers were built, with six apartments in each.
Gradually, the colony grew and at the end of the 1940s there was almost the same population as in the village. The status of the city was awarded in 1960.
