Hair Bl. Carla Acutis sold on the web. The church reacts
The scandal took place only a month before the ceremony that would make Carl Autis The first canonized saint of the 21st century. Auction of the alleged relic – a strand of hair – ended quickly. The item reached the price of over 2,000 euro, or over 9,000 zloty.
The seller remained anonymous. The description includes a photo of a knock with a seal, suggesting that this is an original relic. But the church has no doubt – No such relic was transferred to private hands.
Bishop: « It could be a crime »
According to the daily Corriere Dell’umbria, Domenico Sorrentino, the bishop of the diocese of Assisi, in which the body of the blessed rests, submitted a notification at the police station. The case is conducted towards unknown perpetrators.
– If this hair is false – it is offended by religious feelings. If true – this is a serious crime – commented the priest, quoted by Italian media.
Trade of relics is severely banned in the Church – regardless of their sanctity. The Vatican has already warned against illegal trade « holiness on the web ».
Carlo – Saint 21st century.
Carlo Acutis died in 2006 for acute leukemia. He was only 15 years old. Before his illness defeated him, he managed to create an online museum of Eucharistic wonders, prayed every day and encouraged his peers to faith.
He was born in 1991, he had Polish roots – his grandmother was Polish, and she was taught by a nanny from Poland. Carl’s mother, initially indifferent to the Church, thanks to her son became a catechist.
During the canonization process, two miracles – one in Brazil, the other in Italy – were recognized by the Vatican. They opened Carlo the way to holiness. In May last year, Pope Francis officially approved the trial and set the date of canonization. Speaking in the language of social media – the Holy Father gave Carlo Autis « Lajka ».
Body like alive? Here is an explanation
In Assisi, in the church of Santa Maria Maggiore, the body of Carl Autis rests. The faithful from around the world pray in front of his casket, in which a teenager rests in a sports sweatshirt and sneakers. It looks like he was sleeping.
Is this a miracle? NO. As confirmed by the Vatican, Carl’s face was partly reconstructed from silicone so that – as the clergy explain – it was more recognizable for young people.
