« I have no indications that my client would be invited to interrogation. His medical condition does not allow that at the moment. » That says Piet Noë, the lawyer of Guy D’Haeseleer, in the context of the investigation into the alleged election fraud in Ninove.

On Tuesday, eight people were arrested for interrogation on suspicion of forgery. The action fits within the ongoing investigation into the role of political actors and intermediaries in the large -scale use of powers of attorney in Ninove.

Positive Ninove, the party of former mayor Tania de Jonge, has since registered as an injured party in the judicial investigation into possible election fraud. De Jonge emphasizes that it concerns serious facts and calls for serenity. « This is an investigation into serious facts about fraud to the detriment of the citizens of Ninove, » says De Jonge. « In the interest of everyone – the citizen, the suspects and ourselves as a counterparty – the truth must be thoroughly selected. »

« We have registered as an injured party, » explains De Jonge. « That means that we want to be able to follow the research and be informed of the end result. »

On the earlier administrative handling of the election results by the Council for Election Disputes, De Jonge notes that there was no concrete evidence of fraud at that time. « So we couldn’t act differently. » De Jonge now asks for the court to do his work. « The research must be able to go in all serenity. We are waiting for further developments. »

The judicial investigation focuses on possible election fraud in the municipal elections in Ninove in October 2024. It is investigated whether anti -powers were abused on a large scale, whereby falsified disease certificates would have been added to recruit votes. The certificates showed striking similarities, which strengthens the suspicion of fraud. Justice investigates whether there was organized manipulation and which persons or political structures were involved.
