Grzegorz B. accused of killing Maks. Judgment on June 16
The process, like the previous one, took place behind closed doors. The accused’s sisters were present in the room, who have believed in his innocence for years. In their opinion, Grzegorz B. fell victim to a mistake of justice. The defender wants to acquit.
Maksio died, his sister survived torture
The drama took place in July 2017. It was then that the six -month Maksio was hospitalized in Rzeszów with a cracked skull, broken ribs and a vast hematoma of the brain. The doctors failed to save him. The experts determined that the infant suffered two strong strokes with a hard object in the head. Less than a year earlier, his older sister, 2.5-year-old Lenka, was taken to the hospital-with broken legs and traces of terrifying injuries: the girl was burned with a cigarette, chopped, she had eyelashes.
The torturer-as investigators agreed-was to be Grzegorz B., a 47-year-old carpenter who secretly got involved with the mother of children, Karina B. (30 years old). His visits to the family’s home intensified after a crisis in a woman’s marriage. The prosecutor’s office accused him of derived a perverse satisfaction from tormenting children. Lenka was to panic when she was alone with him, she was soaking, screaming. Initially, suspicions were directed only to the mother, but the analysis of messages and the evidence gathered quickly revealed the role of her lover – a former employer of her husband.
He claimed that the infant fell out of his hands
Grzegorz B. in the initial phase of the investigation maintained that the infant fell off his hands. The mother claimed she didn’t know anything. – But the correspondence between her and Grzegorz B. indicated that she was aware of her partner’s brutal behavior towards children – investigators work.
The trial of Grzegorz B. and Karina B. before the District Court in Rzeszów lasted four years and ended on October 4, 2023. The court found Grzegorz B. guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment. Karina B. heard a sentence of 10 years in prison for help. The verdict was not final, the appeals were made by both the prosecutor and the defenders of both accused.
In an appeal regarding Karina B., the prosecutor demanded a sentence of up to 15 years in prison. In the case of Grzegorz B. – to extend the legal qualification. The defenders, on the other hand, requested the acquittal of their clients or to set aside sentences and re -examination of the case.
The mother is free for now
During the appeal trial, Grzegorz B. remained in custody. He was always brought to the court in handcuffs on his arms and legs, fastened with a chain. Karina B., corresponding to his free foot, did not appear at any of the hearings. During the first day of the trial before the District Court – in the first instance – there was a clear distance between former lovers. There was not a single word between them. Only looks – cool and short, as if everything was clear to them at the time.
Grzegorz B. divorced his wife, but – as his sisters say – children visit him in custody. Lenka went to a foster family, which she loved like her own.
After years of investigations, procedural errors and dramatic testimonies, the judicial history of this case is approaching the end. On June 16, we will know the verdict in the appeal trial. Will it be the final decision? Or maybe the matter will return to the court again?
