Greta Thunberg is deported by Israel after stopping the ship with aid to Gaza

According to the Legal Group on Human Rights Adalah, who represents Thunberg and other activists, she, two activists and one journalist, agreed to be deported and left Israel. Other activists refused expulsion and are currently in custody, pending a decision by Israeli authorities.

Thunberg was one of the 12 people aboard the Madleen ship, which was transporting humanitarian aid to the population affected by the Gaza war. According to the Flotile Coalition of Freedom, travel organizers, the ship was captured by Israeli naval forces Monday morning, about 200 kilometers from the coast of Gaza. She was then accompanied by the Israeli Navy and arrived at the Port of Ashdod on Monday evening.

Activists said the purpose of the mission was to protest against the continuing war and the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza. On the other hand, Israeli authorities stated that such ships violate the maritime blockade set by Gaza.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry described the trip as an action for propaganda purposes, writing on social networks: « The ‘Selfie’ of the ‘celebrities’ is sailing safely for the coast of Israel. »
