Green is growing up, looking for medicine
Every time you say you’ve seen it all with this year’s AEK, there is something more to deny you. Like what happened yesterday afternoon in « Agia-Sophia », with the Union leading 2-0 to PAOK, controlling the game completely and suddenly … leaving the stadium to suffer yet another catastrophic defeat. With a victory yesterday, Matthias Almeida’s team had finally ended the black and white from claiming second place and would have a safe distance from Panathinaikos to welcome it on Sunday. Even with a tie it would be very good about the goal of second place, but it managed to get nothing from a game that it had brought to its measures.
And now? The climate became even more heavier as AEK shows that it cannot recover with anything. It remains without a win from the double in Tripoli on February 23 and is in danger of being subjected to its next season as the risk of even fourth place is now visible. The situation is marginal, people have condemned again and this can only change with results. But what results when she loses games like this with PAOK through her hands? And when tomorrow she has an excruciating rematch with Olympiacos in New Philadelphia who is sure that if they could not play AEK in some way, they would not play it.
With a 6-0 back, with no possibility of overthrow, with all this psychological burden and against a team that has not lost a derby this year, it has won it three times by state. The match may be theoretically indifferent as everything has been judged, but for AEK only more damage can do. Another defeat – and again at home – by this opponent may create a situation that is irreversible. Not that with victory, it changes something dramatically. But it will be a psychological stimulation, a reaction after what has happened.
Almeida at the press conference made his self -criticism and acknowledged that « if it does not go ahead then I cannot be useful ». Meaning, of course, if the administration considers that the situation cannot be reversed, he is willing to leave. However, there is no intention of changing the coach. This is also evident from what he allegedly said by discussing with his associates after the game Marios Iliopoulos. The owner of the PAE spoke of an AEK that « in the first 60 minutes played like the big AEK we all dream of », but added that the team then « handed its weapons ». He described AEK as a nightmare in New Philadelphia from Olympiacos and PAOK and pointed out that the team should be confident about the continuity.
« We need forces for the next difficult games. Physical and mental powers. Now we have to be more persuaded. With reasonable and self -criticism, « he also noted, and from his words there was no thought of a coaching change. He has long been showing that he has decided to continue after the summer with Almeida and Ribalta that have already begun planning for the new season, but they are changing in football. If AEK ends fourth, suffered other big defeats and … the ball is lost in general, then who can put his hand on the fire for what will happen? The Union is now going to play and the only « medicine » is the result. And immediately. When, of course, since its last victory in Tripoli, games such as 6-0 have been with Olympiacos and 2-3 with PAOK, it is a question of how this team can raise a head.
Beyond that, yesterday the new PAE Board of Directors was announced, which is now a four -member. The president remains Evangelos Aslanidis, Vice President of the PAE’s legal representative and president of Amateur Alexis Alexiou, while Giorgos Kanellopoulos and Nikos Pantermalis were added. Outside the Board of Directors, PAE’s Public Relations Officer, Anthi Papakosta, was left. Finally, Norwegian, Rothit Shaggy, was appointed by the KED to run AEK’s rematch with Olympiacos.
