Great disappointment that the proposal has been dismissed

Einar Þorsteinsson, the leader of the Progressive Party in the city council, says it is a great disappointment that a proposal for the establishment of a steering committee with representatives of all parties in the city council to formulate a vision for Heidmörk has been dismissed.

Two proposals relating to Heidmörk were presented at a city council meeting today. One of them by the Independence Party and the other by the Progressive Party. Sitting majority in the city council unanimously voted by dismissing two proposals.

Utilities have submitted a proposal to restrict car traffic significantly in Heidmörk to avoid the water protection area.

« The majority did not trust that work »

« It is a great disappointment that the majority do not trust themselves in the work ahead. It has to take political leadership in this matter.

According to Einar, it is important to start this work in order to seek solutions and analyze the matter.

« It has been argued that water can be retrieved in another place, in the Water End, and then move the water recording area there.

Water protection trumps everything

According to Einar, it would have been possible to use the steering committee to go into detailed cooperation with the public on the future of Heiðmerkur.

« This could have been done with an opinion poll, a city meeting or whatever else people want to do to hear the public’s views on the matter and subsequently find a middleway instead of having the utmost demands of the utility, » says Einar.

« Water protection trumps everything else in the end. I am of the opinion that access to pure healthy water for Reykviks weighs more in the end, but I think elected representatives need to do this work. Possibly the proposals will be on top but we do not know, » Einar adds.
