Great changes can come into effect on Spanish roads

The Spanish Directorate General for Transport (DGT) is preparing a new bill that would prohibit Waze and Google Maps from indicating the location of police checkpoints and mobile speed meters in real time. According to DGT, these notifications allow for infringements, such as drunk or circled drivers, to avoid checks, threatening road safety.

In France, it has been forbidden to display such warnings in navigation applications since 2012. According to French laws, applications are only general,

They can mark danger zones with a radius of several kilometers,

But they cannot give exactly the place of police checks – Write on La Razon.

In Spain, DGT was already in action against WhatsApp and Telegram groups in 2023, which shared the place of police checks in real time. The administrators of some of these groups were reported for serious violations under the Public Safety Act – writes Euro Weekly News.

The purpose of the planned law is to prevent police checks from sharing location in any form, including navigation applications and social media. According to DGT, this measure is essential to improve road safety.
