Grand Duchess Maria Teresa: « I feel at home everywhere »

No withdrawal from the public
In the future, the Grand Ducal Pair will live at Fischbach Castle. A change of location is not unusual for the Grand Duchess: born in Cuba, she left the country with her family at the age of four. They have shaped this early experience, she explains. « I am an exile, I feel at home anywhere. I decorate a little, bring family furniture out of the reserve – and it’s my home, » she said in the interview. The upcoming move should not be difficult for her.
The question of whether she could make friends with a quieter life in the future was recently discussed in the Dutch magazine « Libelle ». While Grand Duke Henri is looking forward to « More time with his wife », much indicates that Maria Teresa will remain publicly active. She is considered a passionate funding for charitative projects and will continue to work in particular for those initiatives that are personally close to her heart.

Among other things, she has the chair of the Fondation du Grand-Duc et de la Grande-Duchesse, which is committed to people in need in Luxembourg and outside. She also always fights for women and girls – and against violence. This also includes her commitment to the association « Stand Speak Rise Up! » Founded by her in 2019, which wants to put an end to sexual violence in conflict areas.
