Gracjan found death instead of stabilization
The brutal beating, which occurred in the picnic in the center of Międzyzdroje on the street of Bohaterów Warszawy, shocked the inhabitants of the coastal resort. On Saturday evening at approx. 22, after leaving the bar on the beach, a group of young tourists attacked 46-year-old Gracjan living in Międzyzdroje.
The quarrel began in the bar
According to witnesses, before the tragic attack occurred, both the victim and the aggressor had fun in the same bar. This is where a misunderstanding was to occur, which, as it seemed at first, ended after a short exchange of sentences. The cause of the conflict was to be a woman. However, as life showed, it was not the end. After Gracjan came out of the bar, young tourists with whom he argued also came out after him. The attack took place in the city center near the « Bałtyk » hotel, it was there that 22-year-old Ernest was supposed to attack from behind a 46-year-old, inflicting two blows with his fist in the head, and when his victim fell to the ground, kick her in the head. Unfortunately, despite the fact that the unconscious Gracjan was hospitalized in Gryfice, the doctors failed to save his life. He died after 3 days.
Policemen were quickly captured by the 22-year-old responsible for this brutal assault and on Monday heard in the District Prosecutor’s Office in Świnoujście the allegation of causing severe damage to health, for which he faces up to 20 years in prison.
Gracjan’s colleagues are shocked by his death
A few days after those tragic events, we were able to talk to Marek Granisz, the director of AMW Rewit in Międzyzdroje, where the deceased Gracjan worked.
– Gracjan worked in our center as a technical worker. His life story is very interesting because he returned to the country in February this year, after 25 years spent abroad. He left the country when he was 20 to Canada, and then also worked in Norway, England, Germany. He worked on ships and drilling platforms. He was a very good, resourceful professional. From what he said, he returned to Międzyzdroje, because he wanted to settle down despite the fact that he had no one from his family here, because his only brother has lived in England for 15 years. Here only his 93-year-old aunt, with whom he lived and looked after her-he recalls.
He had enough wandering around the world
– As far as I know, he wanted to settle here permanently. The first thing he took care of was to obtain a driving license, in which we helped him and we even enrolled him in the course – says a friend of Gracjana.
– Besides, we helped him get an ID card, because the one he had in 1997 was out of date. I know that he also looked around his partner, but he wasn’t really back in these matters, so I don’t know much about it – adds Mr. Marek.
Gracjan was a very cheerful man. – He had the nickname « Americano » because he was like an American from Texas or Miami. He was open to everything and looked at life positively – says Granisz. « He always told us not to worry, because everything would be fine. » I would describe him as a man who looks at the world through pink glasses – he adds. He was also an excellent specialist who could turn on the music and to paint the whole kitchen in the center for a few hours, which took more time to others.
Colleagues will help in the funeral
Gracjan’s death touched his colleagues from work. – I must admit that after we found out that the perpetrator of this tragedy was reportedly from a wealthy family, we were afraid if the case would not be swept under the rug. Fortunately, thanks to the rapid police action, he was quickly caught – says Mr. Marek.
Now colleagues are going to deal with the organization of Gracjan’s burial, because his brother after such a long stay in England may have problems to do it. – One of our employees is haresing with these matters. The mayor of Międzyzdroje also expressed readiness if there was a need to help us – he adds.
