Government will remove the despised tax among Danes
Since 1924, new cars in Denmark have been burdened by towering charges, but now one of the most lucrative state money trees can be in charge.
Sources close to the government confirms to Extra Bladetthat the abolition of the registration fee on electric cars has moved closer than ever before.
More than half of the new cars sold in Denmark are running on electricity. And the green wave has put turbo on an internal government discussion, which several call « historically » in its importance to the car market.
A central source describes the abolition as « certainly » on the way, while others indicate that a full change of car taxation is also at play.
Since discounts on electric cars were introduced, the revenue from the registration fee has halved in a few years and the development seems to continue. Where the state in 2018 could take note of about DKK 18 billion from the tax, it now sounds about nine billion.
But despite the political ambitions, it will not be a finger cut that removes the tax. Several models for a new car taxation are in play. Especially a reorganization where motorists pay more for their actual driving have been aired – the so -called road pricing.
The concept will involve payment per kilometer driven, and especially foreign motorists on Danish roads can contribute.
