The SPÖ should not make a child’s way, says Barbra Neßler. Jana Madzigon
The press: The ÖVP was also responsible for family and youth during turquoise green, much has not changed, right?
Barbara Neßler: We are now in the opposition, which is just as exciting. In the government we got a lot through – now and then despite the ÖVP. That is probably the reason why the ÖVP no longer wanted us as a coalition partner.
In the government pact is now the basic child protection. The Green Minister of Social Affairs often spoke of it, but did not bring them through with the ÖVP. Why does the SPÖ make it now?
The SPÖ had the advantage that we have already performed so much preliminary work. Child poverty is very hidden in Austria. This means that children cannot take friends home because the living conditions are too cramped or their birthdays cannot be celebrated. The feeling of not belonging simply makes children sick. That is why we have made the first step towards basic child security through the valorization of family services. And we started a broad process to develop a realistic model.
