Government in Narva: a gas power station will be built by 2028

At the last, on May 22, in Narva, the ministers approved an increase in Eesti Energia’s capital by one hundred million euros. This will allow the energy company to begin the construction of a gas cogeneration power plant. It is planned to put it into operation in 2028.

The government confirmed that the Baltic power station will continue to operate until 2028, and a new gas power plant with the possibility of hydrogen generation will be built in Narva. The authorized capital of Eesti Energia will be increased by 100 million euros to support such large investments.

“The gas station in Narva will ensure the stability of prices and the reliability of energy supply. It will be able to quickly turn on and disconnect, which is critical for modern systems, ”the Minister of Energy and Environment Andres Sutt explained to the journalist of the Narva newspaper.

He clarified that the choice of Narva as a construction site is due to the fact that the heat generated by the station can immediately enter the local centralized heat supply system.

The currently in the NARVA heating capacities of the road in operation, and to keep prices at an acceptable level, it is necessary to use the energy unit of the Baltic power station, which works on the shale.

“This location is simply logical: economically, technically and in terms of infrastructure,” added Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal.

In Narva, the station will be more effective

When asked about the possible location of a new gas power plant, despite the fact that experts previously called Ira the best option, the Prime Minister noted that “it is most likely that the station will be built where its economic efficiency will be the highest.” He hinted that Narva, where the joint production of heat and electricity is possible, is economically more attractive.

“Eesti Energia as a market participant, of course, plays an important role, and, as the prime minister emphasized, the controlled capacity we need here. The gas power station with a very short reaction time can be quickly turned on and off. In the end, this should actually reduce price fluctuations in various markets,” added Sutt.

In addition to the gas station, as part of the investment plan, accumulative storage facilities with a capacity of 1 GW · h will also be built, boilers of the Baltic power station for working on biofuel are modernized and renewable energy in the field of renewable energy.
