Government cancels « festive agenda » and advances celebrations of April 25 due to mourning by the Pope
The government canceled the entire “festive agenda” and postponed the celebrations for April 25, the presidential minister announced on Wednesday.
At issue is the national mourning by Pope Francis, who, as explained by Amaro, implies reserve in the celebrations
Following the Council of Ministers, which approved the decree of the three -day national mourning for Pope Francis’ death, Leitão Amaro said that the law applicable to national mourning provides for restrictions on the adoption of procedures, such as the placement of the half -rod flag and the “reserve regarding celebrations”.
The festive moments related to April 25, continued the minister who did not detailed which, will be held in a « subsequent date ».
Executive members also canceled all events of the festive nature agenda, such as inaugurations and celebrations.
« We have communicated to the organizing entities, and we are communicating, I guarantee that everyone has done so far, … We will not participate in these events of celebration in this period, which is a period of embarrassment and sincere and deep tribute, » said Leitão Amaro.
On the April 25 solemn session in Parliament, the minister stressed that the Assembly of the Republic “is an autonomous body” and that the government will be present at the ceremony.
It should be noted that the Council of Ministers approved the decree that declares three days of national mourning for the death of Pope Francis, to comply between Thursday and Saturday.
