Gouveia and Melo and Sheik Munir insulted at the tribute ceremony with former Combatants

Presidential candidate Almirante Gouveia and Melo was present, on Tuesday, at the tribute ceremony of the former combatants that take place every year in Lisbon, on June 10th.

The initiative that always takes place in the monument to the Overseas combatants in Belém was marked by shouts of betrayal and racist insults, due to the presence the magnet of the central mosque of Lisbon.

Sheik David Munir would go up to the stage during the ceremony, which also had the mayor of Lisbon, at a time when the organization presented as “an interreligious Catholic and Muslim interreligious ceremony”.

When Sheik was driving to the stage, a man dressed in a khaki uniform was insurgent and, approaching the place, began to shout that the presence of the Lisbon magnet at the ceremony was « a betrayal of the Portuguese people. »

« This is a shame, shovel. This is not your homeland, » shouted another man at the end of David Munir’s brief intervention before heading to Gouveia and Melo, who was in front of him, a few meters away.

« Admiral Gouveia and Melo is delivered to the traitors, » he accused, continuing with racist insults, until the authorities intervened at a time of almost physical confrontation with others who asked him to shut up.

Asked at the end of the ceremony about the situation, the presidential candidate did not want to pronounce, just saying that « these moments are of union and not disunity. » « And that’s what it’s important to maintain, » he added.
