Goodbye to the classic ATMs!
Undoubtedly, more and more people are avoiding the use of cash and prefer to pay their cards with card or mobile, a faster method that does not require you to have money on you. However, some procedures or management requires cash, in addition to many commercial spaces do not accept card payments or have a threshold for it. Also, older people often avoid these most modern methods, so automatic cash mechanisms continue to play a key role in specific cases.
As a result, despite the decline in cash use, several countries apply a new, more modern formula, such as France, which has accelerated the process of modernizing banking services in the spring of 2025.
Thus, traditional automatic cash mechanisms, which have been serving the French for decades, are slowly starting to be forgotten, starting a gradual disappearance, according to the French midloop. Specifically, three large banking entities have announced the progressive abolition of their traditional automatic cash mechanisms by 2026, thus changing the landscape of cash access in France.
These are BNP Paribas, Société Générale and Crédit Mutuel Alliance Fédérale. The three entities have worked to bid farewell to the traditional automatic cash mechanisms with the creation of Cash Services, which will install a total of 7,000 new automatic cash mechanisms throughout France.
These are new generation machines, recognizable by their characteristic logo, which will gradually replace the country’s existing automatic cash mechanisms. Although the user interface will remain intimate, there are some changes. « When the bank card is introduced, the graphical environment of the original banking body appears on the screen, » explains Olivier Fournier, president of Société des Services Fiduciaires.
The main advantage of these new automatic cash mechanisms is to extend the network of this service, while removing money supplies when the customer uses an automatic cash service machine, regardless of his original banking body.
On the other hand, these are more flexible machines, as they not only allow cash withdrawing, but also offer other possibilities: they allow cash deposit and change checks, providing a full range of banking services.
It should also be noted that these new single automatic cash mechanisms will not only be in the big cities, but they are a solution to farm areas that are remote.
