Good news, Slovenian women as happy losers in the world group
Although the Slovenian women’s tennis team last week ended their appearances in the first Euro -African Cup Group Billie Jean King (BJK) with a defeat in the promotion duel, as a lucky loser in the World Group for the 2026 season.
The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has announced that Slovenia has secured a happy loser status because the highest ranked national team is among those who did not reach direct rankings. In the updated rankings, Slovenia is ranked 19.
“Today we received an excellent news that confirmed everything we have invested in Lithuania; effort, heart and team spirit. Despite the defeat, I always believed that this team deserves more. And now we have received confirmation that we are on the right track. I am immensely proud of the girls. I afford this success with all my heart. The competition has also undergone some substantive changes this year. Namely, 21 national teams will participate in the fight for the breakthrough in the BJK 2026 Cup. A total of seven teams (winners of the groups) will advance to the BJK 2026 Cup qualifiers, while the rest of the team will re -join the Group I regional competitions in 2026.
