There is too much mud in the Kockelscheuer Brakeweiher and this sediment will now be removed in the coming months. And not only mud, but also one or the other animal species in the pond. « However, not only local fish species can be found in the pond, » explains the responsible lay judge Maurice Bauer (CSV) on Wednesday morning at the City Breakfast, the monthly press date in the Dämäu on the Knuedler.
Goldfish or silver carp can now also be found in the pond. « We have found that some citizens expose the fish they no longer want at home, » said Bauer. In addition, there is an invasive mussel type, the Chinese pond mussel that is stuck on fishing.
Before the pond will be completely emptied from the end of June, the local species are to be fished and relocated to other ponds. The invasive species are eliminated. In September there will be drafting of around 3,500 cubic meters of mud. This must then be dried on the meadow next to it, which lasts until spring. « The weight reduces and then we can remove the mud, » explains Maurice Bauer.
The pond, which is located directly on the ice rink, extends over 200 meters long and 130 meters wide and covers an area of 16,000 square meters.

Then water is then filled into the pond, which should take around November 2026. This work has no influence on visitors to the local recreation area. Apart from the construction site installations and excavators, nothing will change for you. This process costs 1.6 million euros. It is decided whether the other two ponds are slamming after completing the work.

Nevertheless, a traditional appointment in 2026 will not be able to take place at this point as usual: the COSL pills. The event on which sports associations present their disciplines attracts many visitors every year. This year the spill festival will take place on May 29th. For 2026, the city of Luxembourg and Cosl are looking for a replacement location. « We have some options that we discuss with the COSL, » said Maurice Bauer.
