A minor girl was seriously injured on the Ninoofsesteenweg in Schepdaal on Monday afternoon. She got off a scheduled bus and then crossed the stone road where she was hit. The public prosecutor sends a traffic expert on site. Three of the four lanes are closed.

The accident happened on Monday afternoon shortly before 2.30 pm on the Ninoofsesteenweg in Schepdaal, just before the intersection with Pedestraat. « A minor girl had left the bus and then crossed the Ninoofsesteenweg, » explains Sophie Schuddinck of the Dilbeek police zone. « In addition, she was hit by a passing car. »

An ambulance, a MUG team and the police arrived. « The victim was seriously injured and was taken to UZ Brussel in Jette, » continues Schuddinck. « Further information is currently missing. The Halle-Vilvoorde public prosecutor decided to send a traffic expert on site. »

Spokesperson Frederik Wittock van de Lijn confirms the facts. « The bus stopped at the stop where the girl left, » he says. « Afterwards she was grabbed by a car. The emergency services were notified and the necessary help were added. We have no further information about the seriousness of the injuries. The bus driver was asked to remain on site to make a statement. »

The travelers on board had to switch to another bus to continue their way.

The accident brings a lot of traffic nuisance. The two lanes of the Ninoofsesteenweg towards Brussels remain closed for a while and the traffic will be diverted. In the direction of Ninove, one lane remains closed during the adoption by the traffic expert. (TVP/DBG)
