Get to stay in their old houses over the weekend

As of today, Grindvikings who have made a special contract can be allowed to stay in their old assets in town. Fannar Jónasson mayor Grindavík is expecting residents and guests in town this weekend to celebrate the Sailor’s Day.

Those who have sold Þórkötla, a real estate company in Grindavík, their houses can enter into a contract for the use of the house, a so -called Hollvin agreement, which means that Hollvinur has access to the house and has the authority to use it within the limits set out in the contract.

Following on the application for an approved approved agreement, one can also request a special agreement on accommodation, but in each case it must be examined whether it is safe to grant permission to use.

Interest to stay this weekend

According to Arnar Viðar Skúlason, Director of Þórkötla, there are about 160 people who have or have applied for a dutchry agreement without accommodation, of which there are about 40 people who have requested to add a special agreement on accommodation.

Most applications for accommodation in the assets are now completed, according to Arnar.

Asked if he estimates that some former owners stayed in Grindavík last night, Örn Þórkötla does not have the management of it but they do not expect it.

« We had heard some interest among Grindviks to stay this weekend. It’s both a holiday and so is the Sailor’s Day on Sunday and a special atmosphere around it, » he says.

« This is a welcome addition and we are very pleased to be at least there that it is safe to allow people to stay in the property. This is a positive step in this road trip. »

Sailor Day held over the weekend

Fannar Jónasson mayor Grindavík says that the Sailors’ Day has been prepared in the town, but he will be celebrated on Sunday.

« We just look forward to being able to come together and have a solemn moment. We are expecting residents and guests, it has just been opening a campsite with us and there is a festival on us now. »
