Germany reports back – Diepresse.com
Union and SPD have agreed on a coalition agreement. The working paper brings compromises rather than a « political turnaround ». Germany is able to act again.
CDU headquarters, Wednesday afternoon. At twelve o’clock, white smoke rises. Union’s negotiators (CDU/CSU) and SPD announce that they have agreed on a common coalition agreement. The party leaders have just agreed on the last details for their government program. A little later, the party leaders presented their plans next to the Reichstag building in the Paul Löbe House. « Responsibility for Germany » is on the front page of the 146 -page coalition agreement, which the future Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) calls « a departure signal for Germany ». « When you read the text, you won’t find a lot of what you suspected. And find a lot of what you have not suspected, » says Merz. He was confident that one would « rule well together ».
SPD boss Lars Klingbeil, the future Vice Chancellor, added: « We succeeded in building bridges despite different points of view. » Red lines have been overcome that the coalition agreement was « a thread for Germany ».
