Germany: Mandatory military service « on the agenda of this year »? – The world

Should a mandatory military service be introduced in Germany again? The new trustee of the German Bundestag for armed forces considers that it is inevitable.

The new military commissionerbundestag, Hening Ota, pleaded the principle of reintroduction of mandatory military service in Germany. The Federal Government accounts for a voluntary approach, but, as a military commissioner, « will re-introduce a mandatory military service to the agenda – and this year. Now it should be prepared by Pbaunte elements, » said the CDU politician in an interview for ARD.

« The army is very burdened and must not be exaggerated, » Ota said. « Not more and more loads can be put on a soldier’s shoulder, but that shoema must become more numerous. » The voluntary principle, in which the Federal Government of Germany insists, is not enough, he said.

Social Democrats (SPD) do not share that opinion.

The recruitment « would have direct contact »

Henig Ode is called for a model applied in Sweden, where a compulsory recruitment exists. « Then there would be direct contact, and from the conversation with young people, my personal impression is that the willingness to join the Bundesver, in order to preserve peace and freedom in the future, » said politician CDU.

On the occasion of the statement of the Minister of Defense of Boris Pistorius (SPD) that another 60,000 soldiers are Bundesvero, OTE said that it should now be explained how it will be specifically realized. In the opinion of the Bundestag military commissioner, it is not sufficient that the decision is adopted to send the letter to all young men to answer – whether they want to serve the army.

Legally speaking, the military obligation in Germany is still valid. However, in July 2011 – after 55 – the then Minister of Defense Karl-Tedor Cu Gutenberg (CSU) put it out of strength, which in practice meant abolition both military and civil service.

OTE: « Quickly implement what is feasible »

OTE also suggested that the service in the Bundesvera pays better and rewards. In this context, additional pension points can be considered. In addition, a free driver’s exam could be offered, and the time spent in service could be counted as a training semester for enrollment in college. The federal government would, he should, he should prepare a comprehensive package of measures so that the army would be sufficiently equipped to fulfill its task.

However, the military commissioner considers that the possible reintroduction of the military obligation in Germany in due course could only be valid for men. Mandatory service and for women – As, for example, in Denmark – in the opinion, Otea is currently not realistic. This would require a change in the constitution, and such a change is not in sight at the moment. For amendments to the constitution, a two-thirds majority in the Bundestag, which means that the Union and SPD would have to count on the Vois of AFD or Left.

OTE says that « quickly implemented what is feasible » to avoid the situation that the military constantly entrusts new tasks, and that there are not enough people for that.

CDU-Defense Expert for the introduction of a mandatory service – and for women

And the president of the Federation of Reserve, Patrik Zensburg, requested a return of a compulsory military service. « Given NATO objectives that provide for about 250,000 active soldiers, it must be clear that this is not possible without re-introducing military obligation, » he told Rajniše post. Zensburg was a CDA Prophet for years in the Bundestag.

The President of the Bundestag Defense Committee, Tomas Revekamp (CDU), has been sealed for the introduction of a general obligatory service. This service should not only apply to the military, but could be performed in the social or civil sector, said Rekeamp. In addition, it should be valid « equally for men and women. »

Mirš (SPD): Not in this legislative period

The Head of the SPD Parliamentary Club, Matijas Mirš, decidedly rejected calls for reintroduction of military obligation. « It is clearly defined in the coalition agreement that we rely on the voluntary, » Mirš said for Noah Osnabriker Cajtung. The goal of 60,000 additional soldiers can be achieved « medium – medium » and without obligation. « About military obligation can be possible in the next legislative period, but not in this. »
