Germany declares that Albania is making important steps towards the EU
At the EU Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Luxembourg, the German chief diplomat Baerbock emphasized the importance of integration of Western Balkan countries into the EU also against the backdrop of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
German Foreign Minister of the Green Ecology Party, Annalena Baerbockish, called for the integration of Western Ballakn countries into the EU. « We can no longer afford another dark area in Europe, » Baerbock said on Monday (14.04.2025) as part of a meeting of foreign ministers in Luxembourg against the backdrop of Russian offensive warfare. Further integration of the Western Balkans for this reason is, according to her, « even a common European policy of peace ».
On the agenda also talks on Albania’s membership
The theme of EU Enlargement in the Balkans is one of the issues in the talks of foreign ministers gathered in Luxembourg. Among other things on the agenda were talks with representatives of Albania on the EU’s membership. German Minister Baerbock said about Albania’s « A further major step » towards the EU.
The EU has raised the prospect of membership of the Western Balkan countries more than 20 years ago. Russia and Kin or compete for increasing influence in this region.
