German Invitivor Chief: Russia is planning an attack on NATO!
Germany has « concrete » intelligence evidence that Russia is planning an attack on NATO territory with the aim of testing the key point of the Alliance-Article 5, which guarantees a reciprocal defense, the head of the German foreign intelligence service Bruno Kahl warned.
– We are very sure, and we also have intelligence evidence for this, that (Russian invasion of Ukraine is not the end, but only a step on the Russian path to the west – Kahl told the German Podcast Table Briefings.
He adds that Russian leadership no longer believes that NATO would have stood in defense of its members and that Moscow could try to check that this obligation would truly respect.
Germany does not expect « large tank units from the east to the west, » but as he says, there are people in Moscow who suspect the effectiveness of Article 5.
He also commented that cooperation with the US is still stable despite the occasional tensions.
« The Americans take article 5 very seriously, » Kahl said, adding that they rightly insist that Europe must take over its part of responsibility.
Although the war is still limited to the Ukrainian territory, the German Internal Security Agency, the Federal Office for the Protection of Constitutional Order (BFV), warns that Russia is increasingly expanding a conflict to the West through cyberpades and spies.
