George Iacobescu, the Romanian who changed London’s face, decorated by Bolojan
Ilie Bolojan was decorated on Sir George Iacobescu with the National Order « Steaua Romania » in the rank of great officer, transmits the Presidential Administration.
George Iacobescu is the only Romanian in the world to hold the title of « Sir ».
The distinction is granted « As a sign of high appreciation for the exceptional services brought to the Romanian state, by constantly promoting Romania and supporting the development of Romanian-British relations, as well as for the support given to Romanian artists, researchers and students from the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. »

Sir George Iacobescu, 78, the first Romanian distinguished by Queen Elisabeta II with the title of SIR and who at the request of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher transformed the abandoned docks of London to the Financial Center of the World.
Sir George Iacobescu (76 years old) is an English engineer and businessman born in Romania (Jew with parents of Jewish origins), according to Wikipedia. He studied civil and industrial engineering at the University of Bucharest. From 1969 to 1975 he worked as a structural engineer in Romania before emigrating to Canada.
In an interview-report published by the Financial Times, George Iacobescu told the story that he sometimes has to soften to convince himself that he does not dream.
In 1994, he was promoted as a member of the Board of Directors of the Canary Wharf Holdings Limited as executive director, becoming executive vice -president in 1996 and executive president in March 1997. In July 2021, Sir George went from the role of executive to the president.
Canary Wharf is considered to be the second financial center in the capital of the United Kingdom, after the historical financial center « City » that has developed over 500 years.
In June 2003 he was decorated with the title of Knight of the Order of the British Empire, and in 2007 he was called custodian of the British Museum.
On December 31, 2011, he received the title of knight from Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom for involvement in charitable actions.
