Gazettchen: When the bag is a long time coming
Actually, I just wanted to go to a café briefly, eat a bun. Maybe enjoy a lively house limonade – in the summer weather of the past few days. Nothing special. You know that for sure: hunger, little time, but still want something nice.
So I order. A warm bag with a creative menu name that is reminiscent of a well-known American product. No three-course menu, no extra request. And then … the wait begins. Five minutes. Ten minutes. Fifteen minutes. The patience is slowly disappearing.
After waiting half an hour, I am about to go to the kitchen myself and fry the Bacon by hand.
But before it comes, the operation appears – after now 45 minutes. Smiling she says, she says: « We are sorry, but in the kitchen it takes a little longer today. » Almost an hour of waiting for a small bagel? That’s a lot.
After waiting half an hour, I am about to fry the Bacon by hand.
After a good nerve test, the roll finally comes. And as it turns out, my order was simply never forwarded to the kitchen. I am, openly, speechless. But what happens afterwards no less surprises me. With a friendly smile and the roll in hand, the service says: « We are really sorry for the delay. That goes to the house today. »

And yes – the roll is not only delicious in the end, it also tastes a little like appreciation. It is a small gesture with great effect. I have rarely eaten a roll so satisfied – and I have been waiting so less often.

The “gazettchen” is an informal column in which the authors legally tell about their everyday experiences or even give an insight into their thoughts. This has a long tradition: On December 3, 1946, an opinion with the title « Today » appears for the first time at the top of the side left on the first local side in the « Luxemburger Word ». On January 13, 1971, the « Gazettchen », which has been extremely popular with readers, then became the « gazette », which has kept its Premium-Platz in Luxembourg’s top-class daily newspaper to this day and across all layout.
