Gaza: Palestinian doctor who lost 9 of his 10 children succumbed to his wounds
Dr. Hamdi al-Najar had just returned from Nasser Hospital to Gauzewhere he and his wife were working, Dr. Alaa al-Najar, when their home in Han Younis was hit.
Nine of their children were killed, and the tenth was seriously injured.
Hamdi was hospitalized for brain and internal injuries, but died on Saturday.
Alaa and their 11 -year -old son, Adam, who remains in the hospital, are the only survivors of the family.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) then stated that the incident was under consideration.
In a statement, they said that « an aircraft hit several suspects that had been identified by IDF forces operating in a building near Han Younis, a dangerous battle zone from which citizens had evacuated in advance. The allegation of injury to innocent people is examined. «
The deadly hall
Dr. Milena Angelova-Si, Bulgarian doctor working at Nasser Hospital, said last week at BBC That Hamdi suffered serious trauma in the brain, lungs, right hand and kidneys during the attack.
Greim Grum, a British surgeon who works in the hospital and triggered the couple’s son, Adam, told the BBC that it was « unbearably cruel » that his mother, Alaa, who spent years taking care of children as a pediatrician, lost almost all her children.
He said that « Adam’s left hand was hanging, was covered with fragments and had several serious scratches. »
« Since both of his parents are doctors, he seemed to belong to the privileged Gaza team, but when we lifted him up on the operating table, he seemed much younger than 11 years old. »
Inability to care
The Italian government offered on Thursday to treat Adam at the appeal of his uncle, Dr. Ali al-Najar, who told the Italian newspaper La Repubblica that Nasser Hospital does not have the equipment necessary to treat him.
« It must be transferred immediately to a real hospital, outside the Gaza Strip. Please the Italian government to do something, to take it, the Italians to save it, « he said.
« The Italian government has expressed its willingness to convey the seriously injured boy to Italy, » the Foreign Ministry said in a statement, adding that he is studying the feasibility of the proposal.
Israel began a military campaign in Gaza in response to Hamas’ cross -border attack on October 7, 2023, which killed about 1,200 people and 251 others were held hostages.
At least 54,418 people have been killed in Gaza during the war, according to the Hamas health ministry that runs the area.
