Gaza became a « extermination camp, » says Guterres
António Guterres said on Tuesday that the Gaza Strip became a « extermination field » and that Israel does not fulfill obligations « such as occupying power. »
« More than a whole month has passed without a drop of help in Gaza. No food. No fuel. No remedy. No commercial supply. As helping it dried, horror comports reopened, » UN Secretary-General said in statements in New York.
« Gaza is a field of extermination and the civilians are in an endless cycle of death, » he said.
« The world may be spending words to describe the situation in Gaza, but we will never escape the truth, » added Guterres, stating that the way « is a dead end », « totally intolerable in the eyes of international law and history. »
About Israel, the United Nations Secretary-General did not use half words: « We must also be clear about obligations. As an occupant power, Israel has unmistakable obligations under international law. »
In this sense, the secretary general has guaranteed that the UN will not participate in any agreement that does not respect the humanitarian principles of « humanity, impartiality, independence and neutrality. »
