Salzburg AG consistently continues its investment course in 2025. With an investment budget of over 300 million euros, the company puts strong impulses into the transformation of the energy system and the expansion of the network infrastructure.

The aim is to make Salzburg more independent of energy imports and to permanently ensure the supply of electricity, heat and drinking water at the highest level, emphasizes Michael Baminger, board spokesman for Salzburg AG. « In order to achieve this, investments in hydropower, sun and wind energy as well as strong networks are still needed. Our focus is still on sustainable and future-oriented projects that drive the energy transition in Salzburg and beyond. The high investment budget is a clear confession for this. »

Impulses for the region

The expansion of local, renewable energy generation is the focus of Salzburg AG and therefore around 84 million euros go into numerous projects in the regions. These not only strengthen independence, they are also impulses for the local economy.

With the commissioning of the Sulzau power plant and the opening of the Stegenwald power plant in the second half of 2025, Salzburg AG implemented two large milestones for hydropower in Salzburg. In addition to hydropower, wind and sun are also significant for the energy mix of the future. Therefore, three large facilities in Salzburg, an AGRI PV at the Salzburgring, the Carpark-PV in Siezenheim and the solar. All four systems with a common power of 10.7 MWP are to produce 13 GWh of electricity, which is as much as around 3700 households consume per year.

Since September 2023, wind measurements at the Lehmberg location, which are very promising and confirm the high potential. In addition, Salzburg AG also deals with the sighting and evaluation of further potential wind turbines in the entire state. It is important to get an overall picture of the wind present in the country through measurements.

Stable networks as a backbone

The path to 100 percent renewable energy generation and to achieve the climate and energy goals requires the expansion of the networks. Salzburg AG is continuously working on it together with its 100 percent subsidiary, Salzburg Netz GmbH. In 2025, around 122 million euros will therefore flow into the network infrastructure.

« Our role is also to enable the energy transition. That is why, in addition to investing in hydropower, sun and wind energy, network expansion is so important. Stable networks, a reliable infrastructure- our customers need that to be able to actively participate in the energy transition, » says Herwig Struber, Board of Directors of Salzburg AG. « But also a safe supply of fast internet, the expansion of public charging infrastructure and the provision of public transport in the city and Flachgau are among our tasks. We are taking money together for everything. »
