A 36-year-old man who stood as a fugitive prisoner and was noticed in Bornem by a police team, has sustained an extra six-month prison sentence. After all, he fiercely resisted his arrest.

MM is currently in prison but did not attend the handling of his trial and was also not present at the decision of the case. « During the summer of last year, he had received various entertainment permits from the prison director. That means that he was allowed to leave the prison but had to offer himself again at a certain time. For example, he had to come back on July 26, but did not challenge and consequently MM was prisoner as a fleeing prisoner, » the prosecutor explained.« He had announced that he would come a little later and then the message came in that he was on his way to Italy by boat. Something that was wrong because the police noticed him a short time later when he was sitting on a terrace in Bornem. »

When MM realized the police and realized that they would arrest him, he jumped from the couch on the terrace and tried to walk. The police were able to grab him, but the guy broke loose again. He kicked the legs of the inspectors and also pounded on the inside of the police car, » said the attorney. She asked for six months of effective prison sentence and a fine of 800 euros

MM’s lawyer did not dispute the incident. « He had not returned to prison last year because he did not find anyone who wanted to take him to yesterday that day. He stated that the police had been brutal to him when they saw him and that he had only defended himself. But he finally admitted that he had drunk and therefore became aggressive. »

Murder

The defense also referred to the difficult childhood he had passed. « And moreover, his mother is suspected of the murder of her mother. So my client’s grandmother. That has come to my client very hard and is still haunting his head. »

The judge imposed the guy for six months of effective prison for the facts of rebellion and a fine of 800 euros.
