Antwerp, Borgerhout

The 36-year-old drug criminal Ali O. alias ‘Freaks’ from Borgerhout was arrested this week in the port of Antwerp. He had been fleeing for quite some time after convictions up to thirteen years in prison.

Ali O. has been fleeing for more than a year after several convictions in drug files around the import of cocaine parties via the port of Antwerp. O. had used his transport company and shed to extract large amounts of drugs. According to the federal police, he sustained thirteen years in prison in two judgments. ‘Freaks’ was taken.

A few months ago, the FAST team of the federal police started the active investigation. « Neither costs nor effort were saved to detect him, » says the federal police.

Present in Belgium

Although it was initially suspected that the man had fled to Morocco, numerous actions have been taken in recent weeks in the region around Antwerp. After all, the researchers had found elements that showed that he would be more than likely to hide in Antwerp. That suspicion was confirmed during the Easter weekend when the man took the flight after a police check, so there was no doubt about his presence in Belgium. After a few days of intensive investigation under the leadership of the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office, the Fugitive Active Search Team, in close collaboration with the Antwerp police zone and the Federal Judicial Police Antwerp, the person concerned was able to locate in the port of Antwerp last Wednesday. « Thanks to the determination of the researchers and magistrates, the fugitive in the late afternoon could be won by the fast response team of PZ Antwerp, » says the federal police. After his arrest, he was transferred to the Antwerp prison.
