Fruits and berries rose by 26% per year
Fruits and berries rose by 26%per year. Prices disperse the growth in the cost of domestic manufacturers and adverse weather conditions both in Russia and in many importing countries. Moreover, return frosts can lead to a loss of up to 15% of the apples of apples this year. However, consumers do not frighten prices: the number of purchases in the category of fruits and berries for January -April increased by more than 20%.
In January – April of 2025, the average check when buying fruits and berries amounted to 306 rubles, adding 26% to the year, the analysts of the “Index CHEC” Platform OFD calculated. The category leads in the growth of the indicator in the food market. Growth for confectionery was 5%, vegetables – 15%, bread – 13%. On average, the receipt for products, according to the “Index check”, increased by 8% year by year, to 1.9 thousand rubles. Consumer expenses for berries and fruits increased in the context of increasing prices. The head of the Institute for the Development of Entrepreneurship and Economics, Arthur Gafarov notes that since the beginning of the year, fruits and berries in the Russian regions have risen in price by 15% or more.
In Evotor (developer of cash equipment and software), it is noted that in May in non -net retail, the average strawberry price was 658 rubles. For 1 kg, adding 55% a year to the year. Apples rose by 17% (up to 189 rubles per 1 kg), cherries by 14% (up to 691 rubles per 1 kg), orange by 13% (up to 186 rubles per 1 kg), lemons by 12% (up to 302 kg), bananas by 6% (up to 198 rubles per 1 kg). In the « Index » recorded an increase in the cost of peaches by 13% (up to 485 rubles per 1 kg).
Irina Koziy CEO of FruitNews says that over the year, prices in the category of fruit and vegetable products increased by an average of 20–55%.
The effect turned out to be partially expressed in segments with a high share of local production due to a significant increase in the cost of Russian companies, she explains. Growing fruits and vegetables remains complicated, and the work has risen in price over a year and a half times. To this, rising prices for fertilizers, plant protection products were added, Ms. Cosius lists. The expert recalls that last year’s season was also unsuccessful due to a decrease in yield, this did not allow farmers to accumulate financial resources.
Arthur Gafarov says that the cost of berries and fruits can affect both a decrease in productivity due to climatic fluctuations and price adjustment: “Separate agricultural producers and importers can take advantage of the situation.” The interlocutor “Kommersant” in one of the large horticultural farms considers this conjuncture characteristic of apples. He explains that after cleaning in November -January, fears were formed that the crop would not be enough to meet needs. This stimulated to reduce supplies.
This year, as in the past, return frosts may affect the apple crop, the Kommersant source in gardening believes. It suggests that their gross fee will be reduced by 15%, although it does not exclude that the losses will be compensated by increasing the yield of young gardens in the Caucasus. In the agricultural complex to them. N. I. Tkachev “Kommersant” also explained that spring frosts will reduce productivity.
The Ministry of Agriculture told Kommersant that the amount of damage from short -term frosts this year is lower than in the past: 5% of the total area of perennial stands were injured.
Given the high rates of the laying of gardens in the ministry, they are counting on the growth of gross collection of fruits and berries by 2024, when it reached 1.9 million tons. To increase the availability of imported apples for consumers for the period from January to July 2025, duties for deliveries in a volume of not more than 230 thousand tons were ground, added to the Ministry of Agriculture.
Irina Koziy draws attention to the fact that spring frosts this year influenced not only Russia, but also on many importing countries. Cherry, cherries, apricots and peaches were injured in Moldova, Serbia and Turkey. The latter, according to the expert, may lose up to half the crop. Alla Andreeva, CEO of the All -Divisions Association, notes that in the last year, climatic factors and the disease of the greening affected the production of citrus and concentrated juice from them in Latin America.
The conjuncture for berries can be easier. Mrs. Cosius notes that strawberry prices will decline until the June peak of the season. This is especially noticeable in open markets, where the cost can change four to five times. The chairman of the Presidium of the Association of Retail Companies Stanislav Bogdanov says that relatively on the beginning of May, strawberries in retail were alert by an average of 12.9%. The Russian cherries, according to him, have not yet appeared on the shelves: retailers offer mainly products from Azerbaijan and Chile.
The increase in prices for fruits and berries has not yet forced consumers to abandon them. The number of purchases in the category, according to the “Index Camp”, in January -April grew by 21% year by the year. Demand is growing in the general context of increasing the consumption of products for a healthy lifestyle, says Mr. Bogdanov. He notes that berries and fruits form 4-5% of retailers turning and act as an offline store traffic driver. Dmitry Leonov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Rusprodsoyuz Association, does not exclude that in the future, prices can reduce consumption: “Fruits and berries do not act as the main food product.” Mr. Gafarov notes that the category also does not apply to socially significant. In this context, the expert doubts that the increase in prices will stimulate the authorities to facilitate imports.
