From Vikings to Mario Kart – Peingen celebrates

With the settlement of the headquarters of the Prinz-Heinrich-Reisenbahn and the opening of the Peningen-Esch railway lines and Petingen-Steinfort, numerous railroaders settled in Peningen. Even if this era of the 1870s has long since passed, the railway spirit of punctuality continues to live. The Kagepe Committee started the 68th cavalcade on Sunday at 2:11 p.m. « De Péitenger Wand, Dee Bléist » spread the best atmosphere through the former railway city when the drummer group « Toque y Tumbao » was performed.

Small and large carnivalists got their money’s worth, because variety was well taken care of. In contrast to many other carnival parades in the country in Peningen, groups from Belgium also enrich the hustle and bustle. With their impressive Viking ship « Drakkar », the « Bisons de Recogne » reminded of the warlike times of the northern men.

The « Garage Op of Léier » offered unconventional means of transportation. Instead of devoting themselves to repairing commercially available cars, their mechanics specialized in the construction of real Mario karts. The lovingly designed speedsters with Mario and Luigi provided enthusiasm among the spectators.

Gymnastics and dance club L’Avant-Garde lends moving cars in the Netherlands

Music groups, majorettes and imaginative figures should not be missing. The members of the gymnasium and dance club L’Avant-Garde made of Rodange were particularly striking. The association has been active for over 100 years and shows no signs of fatigue. Every year the group chooses a new motto for the Petinger Kavalkade. Preparations start months in advance: costumes have to be worried and organized. This year the group decided to rent a carnival car from the Netherlands because there is no space for their own construction work.
