On April 21, Tallinn begins to dismantle the Soviet decorative coat of arms from the facade of the center of Russian culture. The basis for the work is the coalition agreement and the conclusion on the assessment of structural security.

This was reported by the BNS press service of the city hall, noting that the issue of removing the characters of the occupation from the city belonging to the city was agreed by the city administration a year ago as part of a coalition agreement. The dismantling of the coat of arms from the facade of the building at 5 is also justified by a technical examination, which confirmed the need to remove the architectural part for security reasons.

According to the conclusion, the coat of arms, located in the upper part of the pediment of the building, is in the worst state than expected, and poses a potential threat.

The removed element is a massive concrete composition located in the central part of the main facade of the building of the Center for Russian Culture. She depicts a five -pointed star, anchor and flags.

The recently conducted technical examination showed that the design, the weight of which is 2.5 tons, does not meet the current safety requirements and may pose a threat to human life and health. Based on the results of the examination, the Department of Protection of Monuments of antiquity issued permission to dismantle the element in accordance with applicable law.

The work is scheduled for the period from April 21 to 25, but their exact duration will depend on weather and technical conditions. The work will be carried out by a specialized company with appropriate qualifications in cooperation with industrial climbers. To ensure security, the territory of the work will be fenced, and the entrance to the center of Russian culture will be organized by Kanuti Park. The daily work of the cultural center will remain unchanged.

After dismantling, the architectural element will be transferred to the Foundation of the Tallinn City Museum.

The work will be carried out in accordance with the Law on the Protection of Monuments of antiquity, the Law on Construction, the Law on Waste, as well as the Rules for the Judges of the city of Tallinn and the Process of the Heritage Zone of the Old City. The work is carried out on the basis of a permit issued by the Department of Protection of Monuments of the Old Tallinn Department of City Planning.
