From the EU Information Center in the « Information Age: Real and Perception » Panel – Cyprus Newspaper
The European Union Information Center organized a panel on “Information Age: Real and Perception” in Famagusta.
According to the EU Information Center, Prof.Dr. Dr. Metin Ersoy and academician Kenan Dursun presentation of the panel in the media current developments, fake news methods, reliable information sources of access to information and ethical journalism principles were discussed.
In his opening speech, EU Program Support Office Program Manager Deniz Birinci said that the fight against disinformation is one of the main priorities of the EU. “As the European Commission, we know very well that disinformation not only shakes the confidence in information, but also deepes social polarization, prevents people from making conscious decisions and makes democratic participation difficult,” he said.
In the EU Information Center’s statement about the panel, the following statements were given:
“The European Commission attaches great importance to the fight against disinformation. The manipulation of disinformation and knowledge creates significant threats for democratic societies, and these tactics can weaken democratic processes such as elections by preventing people from making conscious decisions or completely deterrence.
