From Luxembourg to the wide world: From where is the longest distance?
Even if long-distance machines over the heads of the Luxembourgers with the Cargolux fleet every day, potential passengers have little of them. Apart from the freight jumbos, there is little offer in the long-distance segment on the find.
The most noteworthy are the China Southern Airlines machine, which has connected Luxembourg with Zhengzhou since the end of 2023 and flies further to Guangzhou from there. The Airbus A350-900 long-distance jet needs over ten hours for the 8,000 kilometer route and is therefore by far the longest passenger line flight from the Grand Duchy. Only those who start looking in the aviation history books will find a boulder flight to Johannesburg, which lasted longer. The connection to South Africa existed for 30 years and was discontinued in 1994. In 1999, the Luxair tried four flights a week to New York, which, however, were set again after half a year. The currently longest Luxair flight goes to the United Arab Emirates in Dubai.

If you want to stand out from Luxembourg to the wide world, you have to live with compromises in the form of a stopover. Or does it make more sense to leave the find on the left and to head one of the turnstile in neighboring countries by car, bus or train? We compared prices and time in some test bookings. We used the nearest major airports in Frankfurt, Paris and Brussels.
-
Travel time to Frankfurt Airport: Almost three hours by car (240 kilometers), at least four hours by bus/train and change at least once.
-
Driving time to Charles de Gaulle Airport: Around three hours by car (360 kilometers), around 3.5 hours by bus/train (switching at least once).
-
Driving time to Brussels Airport Zaventem: Around 2.5 hours by car (216 kilometers), around four hours by bus/train and at least twice.
Beware of « Tight Connections »
If the transfer time is too tight, the stopover quickly becomes an endurance test. Photo: Shutterstock
This has the pitfalls. Especially with the large airport crossings, an hour is often just over, two hours of transfer time offer more security, even with regard to possible delays. You should also make sure that all flights are part of a booking. Anyone who then misses the connecting flight due to a delay is entitled to a rebooking.
When changing in countries outside the EU, travelers should plan even more time. In the United States, for example, passengers have to get the entire entry procedure behind another domestic flight and also give up the luggage again. With great rush, this can quickly take two hours.

new York

Contrary to the expectations of many, flight prices in the USA are often not so unattractive (and even before the Trump election). As a sample period, we looked at New York from May 9th to 18th, with departures from Luxembourg, Frankfurt, Paris and Brussels. All prices contain back and forth flight. Seats, luggage and for some airlines also the meals may have to be booked. This means that the flight price can increase again, especially in the case of transfer combinations with several flight segments.
-
From Luxembourg via Zurich (Swiss) or Munich/Frankfurt (Lufthansa): 486 euros or 493 euros (Eleven to twelve hours on the way there, just under ten hours for the way back). KLM is a bit more expensive via Amsterdam (537 euros).
-
From Frankfurt: In contrast to Luxembourg, there are several options for direct flights to the Big Apple from the Main metropolis. For 443 euros Brings the German Lufthansa (almost 8.5 hours of flight, almost eight hours return flight) to New York, the US carrier Delta does the job for 447 euros, the German Condor costs 476 euros.
-
From Paris: The French capital presents itself as a price breaker in comparison and delivers offers well below the 400 euro threshold with flight times of eight hours (outward flight) and almost seven hours for the return flight. With the French Airline French Bee it works From 363 euros The route flies over the large pond, the low-cost carrier Norse Atlantic Airways for 369 euros. United costs tariffs from 488 euros, the local airline Air France wants 526 euros.
-
From Brussels: A look at the Belgian capital is also worthwhile. Already From 407 euros If it goes to New York with United Nonstop (eight hours, 7.5 hours back), for two euros more you can also rely on the home carrier Brussels Airlines.
Bangkok
Bangkok and especially the Thai dream beaches that can be reached there are a popular winter travel destination. Photo: Shutterstock
If it becomes wet and colder again in Luxembourg, it is worth taking a look at the distance. The rainy season ends in Thailand in October, which is why we have a 2-week test book booking from October 27th. until 9.11. look at.
-
From Luxembourg Via Istanbul (Turkish Airlines) or Amsterdam (KLM): 678 euros or 912 euros (14-15 hours on the way, 16-18 hours for the way back.
-
From Frankfurt: The cheapest direct flight options from the main metropolis to the Thai capital are Thai Airways with 745 euros (Eleven hours of flight, 12.5 hours return flight) and Condor with 842 euros.
-
From Paris: For Thailand flights, the city of love is not the cheapest starting point. The National Airline Air France flies for 899 euros After Bangkok (11.5 hours of flight, 13 hours return flight), Thai Airways offers non -stop lies for 1,082 euros.
-
From Brussels: The Belgian neighbors only have Thai Airways as a direct flight to the tropical paradise. Flights in the booking period From 891 euros offered.
Sydney

Sydney is one of the first metropolises year to year to welcome the new year with a gigantic fireworks. Reason enough for a trial booking over New Year’s Eve from December 29th to January 11th (2026). In this price comparison, the Australian city is, so to speak, an exotic, because it is currently not available from Europe via Nonstopflug.
From Luxembourg: Anyone who breaks off from the find to the east coast of Australia can only do this with two stops. The cheapest alternative in our booking example is a barely reasonable 2-stop version of Vienna and Taipei (Luxair and China Airlines) with well over 40 hours of flight time for 1,433 euros. A variant with Lufthansa and Swiss is more attractive in terms of time, which leads for 1,681 euros via Frankfurt and Hong Kong or on the way back over Zurich, namely 26.5 hours on the way back and almost 29 hours on the way back.
From Frankfurt: Anyone who flies off the main metropolis can be for 1,154 euros with China Airlines and a stop in Taipeh, but also has to take into account an extremely long stopover, which screws up the travel time to over 40 hours a way. The combination with Thai Airways via Bangkok and on the way back with Vietnam Airlines via Ho Chi Minh City with 22 or 29 hours of travel, which costs 1,551 euros on the way back. If you pay more, you can also find more comfortable variants with transfer experts such as Emirates, Qatar Airways or Singapore Airlines.
From Paris: The French capital once again creates the price record and lands the price record of 971 euros. On the outward flight, the travel time with a stopover in the Chinese Xiamen is quite high (37 hours), on the return flight it goes much faster with 27.5 hours. For 1,390 euros, very good flight times (23 or 26.5 hours) with Cathay Pacific via Hong Kong to Australia.
From Brussels: The Belgian capital also gets into the price comparison with a Cathay Pacific connection, but with significantly longer travel times (38.5 or 32.5 hours). Cost: 1,147 euros. At 1,355 euros, Thai Airways presents itself, but with 22.5 or around 25 hours, however, devour significantly less precious travel time.
Conclusion
In the case of long-distance flights, the transfer of transfer from Luxembourg in the vagarbit is worth it in terms of price, if you add the long journey to the surrounding turnstile, as well as the arrival and possibly parking costs. In any case, you should test several variants when booking the flight and not only different departureports, but – if possible – also try out different flight data. Often it can make a difference whether you start the trip on Sunday or Monday.
The Frankfurt Airport has its own long-distance train station with ICE connection. However, there is no continuous rail connection to the Grand Duchy. To do this, Lufthansa flies the short distance to the boulder three times. Photo: Shutterstock
From an ecological perspective, the 1-stop connections with short-haul flights to Frankfurt, of course, make absolutely no sense, but the view of the journey by bus and train shows the serious infrastructure problems, especially from the Grand Duchy. An intercity connection from Luxembourg to Frankfurt past the Lufthansa hub, which has its own long-distance station, would largely make the ultra-root route flown three times.
Do not always choose the cheapest price when booking the flight
It is worth taking a closer look: the prices directly at the airline are often only slightly more expensive than the cheapest provider. Photo: Screenshot Momondo
If you book your air travel via flight booking portals, you should always have a look where you take the trip exactly. Often a direct reservation on the airline with a slightly higher price is only given in small print, but it is worthwhile due to the direct wire to the airline. If you book through an internet provider and then encounter problems during your trip, you often have to go the cumbersome path through the additional company instead of asking directly at the airline.
In addition, it is worth taking a look at the tariff structure. Some airlines offer particularly cheap light tariffs in the Economy Class, in which every performance (seat, luggage, meals) has to be bought separately, so that the next higher tariff is often the better solution. But even in Premium Economy and Business Class there are now significant differences.
