From July 1, 2026, it will no longer be legal
« It is scary that there are PFAS substances in 76 percent of the jackets that Danes can buy in online marketplaces such as Temu, Shein and Amazon, and that in most cases there are PFAS concentrations that are illegal in the EU. Environment Minister Magnus Heunicke.
The same study shows that the Consumer Council Think Chemistry found only PFAS in one in nine jackets purchased in stores in Denmark, but it currently complies with legislation because PFAS in clothing is still allowed.
However, from July 1, 2026, it will no longer be legal to import and sell that jacket because there is a Danish ban on PFAS in clothing on the way.
However, it will be possible to sell from warehouse for another six months until January 1, 2027.
« It is the Wild West of consumers with marketplaces such as Temu, Shein and Wish, and there are too many examples of the products not complying with EU law. At worst, the products are dangerous to consumers, so I would encourage everyone to stay away from marketplaces with sellers from countries located outside the EU. Environment Minister Magnus Heunicke.
In a short time, the minister signs a new order that prohibits the sale and import of clothing, footwear and impregnation spray with PFAS.
The ban comes into force on July 1, 2026 and will apply, regardless of whether the sale is in physical stores or online, and whether the seller is based in Denmark or outside the EU’s borders.
The control authorities will enforce the rules if the marketplaces continue to make these products available to Danish consumers.
The ban will also apply to imports, and thus it will not be legal for private to import clothes, shoes and impregnating agents with PFAS through online marketplaces.
