From a glass to a book in the hands
Don’t stay away
« Anyone who will solve the problems with water worth two Nobel bonuses: one for peace, others for science, » said John F. Kennedy, 35th US President. More than half a century has passed since that time, but the water -related problems in the world have not decreased, but the number has increased significantly.
« In Lithuania, there is often a position that there is no problem with water. Neither farmers nor households are facing it, but the problem in the world is very large – the euroka Commissioner Virginijus Sinkevičius, formerly responsible for the environment, ocean and fisheries. The basis for the prevention of the current health and energy crisis. ”
Realizing the importance of this issue and the extent of the problem, Vice President of the Union of International NGOs of the NGOs of the Lithuanian Soroptimist Club, Director of the Institute of General and Social Competences of the Public Security Academy of Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) prof. Eight years ago, Rūta Adamonienė started to organize scientific-practical conferences for the general public.
« This is a great opportunity to share knowledge and experience, get acquainted with professionals in various fields and discuss this challenge that touches each of us, » says R. Adamoniene, who organized an eighth conference with soroptimists and colleagues from the university.
« This time we have explored various aspects of water importance – from its role in ecology and everyday life to the challenges of sustainable water resources and protection. We also discussed the influence of water on both nature and human health and well -being, » says R. Adamonienė.

Increasing danger to resources
Soroptimists seek to prove all their activities that major changes start with small good deeds. This is also evidenced by the water conference initiative in 2017.
« Soroptimists create opportunities that change the lives of women and girls. The woman is primarily associated with life and life with water. Water is not only a source of life, but also our quality of life, the prosperity of future generations, » says R. Adamonienė.
The MRU professor aims to expand the conference audience, attract not only soroptimist clubs, but also the academic community, student, schoolgirl, and third -century university listeners.
The water theme conferences are held annually in the spring, commemorating World Water Day. The circle of the theme of the upcoming conference is the previous one: the reports heard, the discussions arising leave many unanswered questions. The subject is also expanded by life itself.

Midona Dapkienė, Associate Professor at the Department of Water Engineering at Vytautas Magnus University, analyzed not only global problems with water resources, increasing pollution and climate change, but also emphasizing the disastrous influence of wars on water resources. It was extremely sensitive to the information provided by M. Dapkienė about how much damage to water resources caused Russian aggression in Ukraine.
