In the south of France and in Belgium, around fifteen people were picked up in the dismantling of an international network for the production of synthetic drugs. The Marseille public prosecutor reports this on Saturday. Most of those suspects were arrested in the French department of VAR, but one of the leaders of the network was reportedly arrested in our country by the judicial police of Liège.
The operation, which started on Monday after months of investigation, came after the arrest in June 2024 of two people in the VAR who transported more than 200 kilograms of methamphetamine. The investigators then discovered that in the spring of 2024 around 400 kilograms of methamphetamine was produced in a laboratory on a luxurious estate in the hinterland of the VAR.
« The raw materials, which were mainly purchased in China, were then supplied via the sea and by land to companies in the VAR, where the network had strong logistics contacts, » said the public prosecutor’s office.
The two people who were arrested in June 2024 belong to the criminal environment of VAR and would have ties with a Mexican cartel. The network also had branches in various European countries and used intermediaries in Spain and Belgium.
For house searches under the research, cash, three vehicles, electronic equipment and mobile phones were seized, among other things.
