Freek Rikkerink (32) from singing duo Suzan & Freek has incurable lung cancer

Freek Rikkerink (32), from the popular Dutch singing duo Suzan & Freek, has metastatic lung cancer. There is no chance of healing due to the metastases, the duo let you know in a message on Tuesday afternoon On their Instagram page.

« We have been completely defeated. We have been inseparable for 18 years and together we still have so many beautiful things to live for, » is the caption under the photo on which the two hold each other’s hands.

The Achterhoekse Zangduo consists of Suzan Stortelder (Zieuwent, 15 June 1992) and Freek Rikkerink (Harreveld, March 29, 1993). The two know each other from high school, and married in 2023. At the end of this year they expect their first child.

« We will enjoy the time that we have granted together for as long as possible, even if we do not know how long that will be. »

Ziggo Dome

The couple became familiar with their covers of famous songs that they placed on social media every week. In 2016 their version of Don’t let me down From The Chainsmokers Viral, which turned out to be the kickstart of a successful musical career. In 2022 the two were in a sold -out Ziggo Dome for the first time. They owe their popularity to hits such as Gold,,  » When it is evening and Battery.

The tragic news comes in the middle of a series of six concerts in the Ziggo Dome, three of which were planned for next weekend. However, the duo says that it will stop all planned performances and other professional activities immediately. « We want to ask for peace and privacy for us and our families and friends in this difficult time, » said the duo.
