fraudsters use fake STI links
The Lithuanian police are warning the public about a new method of fraud, which has recently been increasingly used – the references of the Fake State Tax Inspectorate (STI). Scammers use the search engine’s Google functionality to increase the visibility of the fake links and show these links higher than the real STI website.
This method is dangerous because people can get into the scammers by relying on the results of the search engine. People just have to press on a fake site that looks like an official STI website, but in reality it is a clone created by fraudsters. The purpose of such sites is to lure personal information, including login details, bank card numbers or even money.

How to protect yourself?
Lithuanian police are calling for extra care and always carefully check the site address before any action.
The real STI website must be accessible through the official address – www.vmi.lt; Any other similar results that are slightly different from this address may be a fraudulent cover.
What if you become a victim?
If you think you have provided your personal data on counterfeit sites, contact your bank as soon as possible to block the account and observe suspicious steps. Also inform the police and provide all possible information about the case.
Police recall that various fraud schemes are constantly underway and that it is necessary to remain vigilant on the Internet. Only official and safe sites are recommended.
