Frane traveled for eight and a half hours until salvation from Lastovo, but he did not survive: ‘I shake from shock …’

Which has lost the life of a 26-year-old young man from Blato on Korcula, whose life has extinguished at the Dubrovnik hospital after eight and a half hours of long transportation from Lastovo? Whether the life of Fran Borovina Mice could have been saved that he had arrived at the General Hospital in Dubrovnik on time, that is, the praised, « incorruptible » fast boats can really go out to the open sea on the storm south, as presented. The questions that have been tormented by all those who have known and loved him in recent days. Recall that the young man died on Monday morning at a hospital in Dubrovnik. The request for his emergency transport was requested at 9.43 pm, but since the fast medical boat could not sail, as was the ship of the Harbor Master’s Office, and the helicopter could not take off, the young men from the port of Marko Polo were transported to Vela Luka. From there, the ambulance transported him across the island to the town of Korcula, then transported to Orebic by ferry, and then they ran to Dubrovnik via Peljesac. All the way, they tried to keep it alive.

His friends tell us that he was truly a favorite in society, a rocker, drummer of Korcula’s band Kolpo Morte, very social. They adored him from Korcula to Lastovo, there was no person who did not leave a trace of his own personality.

– He would complain about some pain, like me, but he never deeply went into it. I shocked when I heard. Before he went to Lastovo, he looked normal for me, a call for coffee, a smile … I’m in disbelief. He was a terrible talent, maybe one of the best in Croatia, but since we were cut off here on the island, unfortunately, he was unfortunately managed to celebrate. He was always ready to help, but without exaggeration, whenever and whatever he needed. I’m still shaking with shock – his friend Mate tells us.

We sent a query to the Ministry of Health again about the fast ship for medical transport, but this time the Croatian Institute for Emergency Medicine answered us. Considering that they emphasized that these boats could sail to the worst storm and waves of six meters, we were interested in what the weather they could or could not sail, which is why there are three of the six boats, including the one in Dubrovnik, for a landing on land, as well as if the young man would have greater chances of survival. We did not get a response to any of them, but they told us about projects and generalities.

In the meantime, an initiative was launched at Lastovo seeking more efficient medical care on the island.

– Institutions are not equipped with transport means that can perform an ambulance. If you need help while the weather is nice, then you are fine, but if something happens to you in the evening and when the weather is rough, then it does not even drive a helicopter or drive the ship. This is the third time in a year that we have a problem, only this time it ended unhappy. The boy who fell and broke the skull had to wait for the ferry, and managed to translate him with a private boat. We ask us to be sure when something happens – Mary tells us on behalf of the islander initiative.
