France’s first manufacturer of electrolysers stand before the end

The McPhy company, which last year in Belfort the first French factory for Electrolysers, machines for the production of green hydrogenopened, announced in a statement received on Thursday that it was driven into bankruptcy.

The company, which had assumed the customers since its opening in June 2024, had initiated an arbitration process last month, which gave the possible students until 9 May.

In a message from Wednesday evening, however, McPhy announced that no offer had been received. « As a result, the McPhy company will be the subject of a judicial liquidation procedure, » says the explanation.

This liquidation will « result in deleting the quotes of the shares of McPhy » on the Euronext, « whose expected residual value would be zero, since the proceeds from the use of the assets will probably be below the amount of the social passiva ». According to its own statements, the company still hopes for a partial takeover that is linked to conditions.

McPhy built a mega factory right next to Belfort. But the demand for electrolysers does not keep up on the user.

McPhy emerged about 15 years ago from research by the CNR and the Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) and last year employed 260 people in France, Italy and Germany. The company was part of the Clean Hydrogen Alliance have set itself the goal of using green hydrogen by 2030 and thus reaching carbon neutrality in the European Union by 2050. Since July 2020, the Alliance has been part of the new European industrial strategy, which focuses on the development of carbon -free hydrogen.
