France to oppose NATO’s ‘intervention’ in Asia-Pacific
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed hope that France would oppose NATO’s « interference » in the Asia-Pacific region during a call with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot.
Wang hoped that Paris would « take the right position and oppose NATO’s intervention in Azi-Pacific issues, » the Chinese Foreign Ministry said.
The Chinese Foreign Minister also called for joint efforts to « support multilateralism, protect free trade and oppose unilateral and threatening practices ».
« China pays attention to France’s engagement to support a China policy and believes that France will implement this commitment, » he added.
Wang Yi also said that Ukraine’s « issue » is « fundamentally different » from the « Taiwan issue ».
Barrot, on the other hand, spoke against « trade wars and customs tariffs ».
« France is ready to continue to solve economic and commercial tensions properly through consultations, » Barrot said.
Barrot said Paris « always considers China as a friend and partner, firmly follows the policy of a single China and hopes to maintain high -level exchanges and close strategic communication with China. » ATA
