France is considering a ban on social media for children / day
It has already been reported that a 14 -year -old pupil with a knife was killed by a 31 -year -old teacher on Tuesday. The attack took place during the Finnish search at the school.
« I suggest banning social media for children under the age of 15, » French President Emmanuel Macron said on Tuesday night. « The platforms have the opportunity to check the age. Let’s do it, » he added.
With the support of France and Spain, Greece has proposed a proposal on how to restrict children’s access to social media at the European Union (EU) because evidence suggests that social media can adversely affect the mental and physical health of children.
Macron stated that if no progress has been made within several months, France would unilaterally carry out the ban. « We can’t wait, » the president emphasized in an interview with France 2 on Tuesday.
There have been several incidents in France in recent years where students have attacked the teaching staff or their schoolmates.
In March, French police began randomly in schools and search the bags of pupils and other people at schools to see if they were hidden in knives or other weapons.
French Prime Minister Francois Bairu Office said Wednesday that a decree would be issued for the sale of knives to minors in the next two weeks.
Bairu broadcaster TF1 told Tuesday night that the ban would be introduced immediately and would apply to « all knives that can be used as weapons. » The Prime Minister also called for metal detectors to try out in schools.
Minister of Education Elizabeth Borne has called for Thursday at noon in all French schools to honor the help of the killed teacher at a moment. « The whole education community is in shock, just like the whole nation, » Borne told Radio France Inter. She emphasized that she was open to everything to improve security, but added that the metal detectors would not perceive the ceramic blades.
