France decided to recognize the Palestine state: the next step

France’s Foreign Minister, Jean-Noel Barrot, has stated that Paris is determined to recognize the state of Palestine, describing this step as a responsibility emanating from its role as a permanent member of the UN Security Council. In an interview with the French Channel RTL, Barrot said that France will take concrete steps at the United Nations Conference on Palestine, which will be held in New York from June 17 to 20, under the co -president of France and Saudi Arabia.

According to the French chief diplomat, the purpose of this conference is to eliminate obstacles to recognizing the state of Palestine and creating conditions for a sustainable solution.

« If we know the state of Palestine, this will be to change something and make its existence more reliable, » Barrot said.

However, he did not confirm whether France would make the decision during the June Conference, stressing that possible recognition is conditional. Among the conditions listed by him are: the release of hostages held by Hamas, his disarmament and the exclusion from the Palestinian administration structures, the recognition of the Israeli regime as a state and reform within the Palestinian authority.

The Barrot statement comes at a time when several European countries, including Spain, Ireland and Norway, have taken steps to recognize Palestine as an independent state, increasing diplomatic pressure on a two -state solution in the Middle East.
