Four teenagers are stuck for more than an hour at a height of 70 meters due to a problem at attraction in Walibi
Four teenagers were stuck in the Dalton Terror for a while on Friday afternoon, a well -known attraction in the Walibi amusement park. The four hung for more than an hour at 70 meters.
Adèle Moreau, Walibi spokeswoman, confirms the incident. « Due to a technical problem, one of the gondolas lingered at the highest point of the Vrijvalt tower, more than 70 meters above the ground, » she says. « There were four teenagers in the gondola, between 12 and 17 years old. »
In the first instance, someone from the technical team (along a staircase inside the tower) climbed up to replace a possible broken piece, but that did not help, after which another gondola was sent up. « That is a standard procedure during maintenance, but normally never happens while visitors are present, » says Moreau. « Once the technical team was upstairs, they dropped the gondola with the teenagers in it manually. »
According to the spokeswoman, the latter is « completely safe ». « The brakes of the Dalton terror are actually a huge magnet, so such a free fall can never go wrong. »
Just after 2 pm the four teenagers were able to set foot again. None of them was in shock or had complaints after the incident, according to Moreau. « We gave them a voucher to eat and drink something in a quiet restaurant nearby. »
To investigate exactly what the problem caused, the Dalton Terror was closed to the public.
The Dalton Terror
The 77 -meter high Dalton Terror is the highest racing tower in the Benelux and was opened in 1998. Although the original theme was based on the Daltons from Strip series Lucky Luke, the rights thereon expired in 2014 and Walibi had to remove the images from the Daltons. In 2015 the attraction received a new look: the yellow tower turned brown and the purple gondolas turned yellow/orange.
The Dalton Terror is one of the fastest attractions in the Benelux, with gondolas that reach a top speed of 106 kilometers per hour. Only the Kondaa (also in Walibi and a top speed of 113 kilometers per hour) and Fury in Bobbejaanland (106.6 kilometers per hour) are faster.
