In the Brussels municipality of Sint-Agatha-Berchem, a fire raged on Monday evening in an apartment building, in the Ganshorenstraat. The fire was quickly extinguished, but four people were slightly injured. The Brussels fire brigade reports this. The fire brigade had previously reported that it was a flat in Koekelberg, but that turns out to be incorrect.
« Our teams were pulled out around 8.15 pm, together with the medical emergency services and the police of the Brussels-West zone (Jette/Ganshoren/Koekelberg/Sint-Jans-Molenbeek/Sint-Agatha-Berchem) for an apartment fire on the first floor of a building that counts three, in the Ganshorenvoorder, says of the Nieuw. « It was a blazing fire with heavy smoke development. »
The Brussels West police set up a safety peripheral while the fire brigade attacked fire. « Seven residents were evacuated, » the spokesperson continues. « Four of them were caught by the smoke and were transferred to the hospital. Their condition was not alarming. Fortunately, we no longer found people during our Search & Rescue. We were able to bring a cat to safety. »
The fire was under control around 8.40 pm, but the after -blighting and cleaning up will take some time. The fire where the fire raged is uninhabitable. The other flats are not damaged by the fire, but because the corridor and the staircase full of soot are hanging, the building is temporarily declared uninhabitable. The municipal services and the police provide the necessary care. The origin of the fire is still unclear.
