Foster parents will have a view of parental leave from 1 July. That proposal from Vooruit and CD&V is included in the program law that will be discussed this week in the Chamber.

In Flanders, around 11,000 children and young people have a place in a foster family. Almost 80 percent of the cases are long -term foster care, with an average of seven years. Yet at long -term care, foster parents still have no full right to parental leave, while foster care requires as much time and care as the upbringing of their own child.

The Program Act now foresees that foster families are entitled to the possibility of four months of parental leave per parent. The possibility applies to long -term foster care, so it is clear from the outset that a child will stay in the same family for at least six months. The measure would take effect on July 1.

Delay?

Anja Vanrobaeys (Vooruit) and Nahima Lanjri (CD&V) have since received signals that the RVA might not be ready to handle the applications. Minister of Work David Clarinval (MR) assured that this will be the case. For the officials, the law will also automatically take effect. There must be a separate legal text for the self -employed, but the minister said that this adjustment will indeed come.

The Program Act contains a large part of reforms that the government wants to implement. On Tuesday, the tax part already received green light in the competent Chamber Committee. This week the discussion and mood of the limitation of unemployment in time, one of the most important reforms of the Arizonaflorew follows. It could be heard that port workers and sea fishermen also get an exception to that limitation. Furthermore, the engagement benefit is falling from three to one year.
