Former Ukrainian political is killed in Madrid
Former Ukrainian political, Andriy Portnov, was killed on Wednesday morning in front of a school in a rich suburb of Madrid.
According to Reuters, police received a call to warn of the shooting of a Ukrainian citizen at 9:15 am, abroad of the American School of Madrid, an elite college located in Pozuelo de Awarcon.
Andriy Portnov was an advisor to former Ukraine president Viktor Yanukovich, deposed in the 2014 « Euromaidan » revolution.
Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, there have been several crimes between the Russian and Ukrainian elite in Spain. The country has a significant population of expatriates from both countries.
In November and December 2022, six bomb letters were sent to high profile people, including Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, Ukraine Embassy in Madrid, government offices, an EU satellite company and the US embassy.
A 76 -year -old Spanish civil servant whose search on social networks suggested sympathy for Russia, was arrested for the crimes.
In April 2022, a Russian businessman linked to Russian gas company, Novatek, was found dead in an apparent suicide. In February 2024, a Russian pilot who deserted to the helicopter Ukraine was found dead with several bullet injuries in the garage of the building where he lived, near the plumbing.
